Objective
SynCell-nExUs (SynCellEU programme for recruiting next generation European leaders in Synthetic Cell research) is a new excellent postdoctoral programme led by the Max Planck Society (MPG) and coordinated through the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPI-B) & the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology (MPI-TM) for the recruitment of 40 postdoctoral researchers towards highly interdisciplinary & intersectoral research in the field of Synthetic Cells under four major thematic areas: Metabolism & Energy, Division & Replication, Information Processing & Evolution, and Enabling Technologies. The programme will maintain the highest research quality standards and counts with the participation of 22 research organizations across Europe as Implementing Partners hosting the postdoctoral fellows. It represents a stepping stone towards the establishment of a long-term collaborative agreement in the framework of the SynCellEU initiative through a multidisciplinary and innovative approach. The SynCell-nExUs postdoctoral programme includes 50+ options to carry out research projects with prestigious supervisors and the availability of world-class research infrastructures. Recruited fellows will enjoy an excellent training programme through a combination of research-oriented and demanding soft skills, including training on research diversity, scientific & communication skills and a retreat for personal development. In addition, the international & intersectoral aspects of the programme will be maximised through collaboration with several Associated Partner organisations, including members of the SynBioEU network and relevant companies from the private sector. Altogether, the SynCell-nExUs postdoctoral programme offers the perfect environment for the training of postdoctoral researchers in synthetic biology and related disciplines, thus creating a myriad of future opportunities for the fellows and a workflow of excellent researchers as future leaders in the area.
