Objective
CHAMP aims to develop perovskite-based chiral laser diodes by integrating perovskite gain media with scalable chiral photonic nanostructures. The project is built upon two key innovations: (1) metal halide perovskites as gain materials, which provide exceptional optical gain, spectral tunability, and compatibility with low-cost, solution-based fabrication methods, and (2) scalable nanophotonic chiral cavities made by soft nanoimprint lithography, which manipulate light–matter interactions to intrinsically control polarization. Together, these advances go beyond the current state of the art in laser technology and will pave the way for breakthroughs in advanced photonic applications. The project will begin with the design of perovskite-based chiral nanophotonic structures. The second stage will focus on the fabrication of these nanostructures with a scalable fabrication method, followed by detailed optical characterization. The final stage will target the fabrication of a fully integrated device, aiming to demonstrate the first electrically injected CP lasing from a perovskite-based nanophotonic laser diode. The project will be primarily carried out at ICMAB-CSIC under the supervision of Dr. Agustín Mihi. CHAMP will leverage skills in photophysics of perovskite lasers and LED device physics, further supported by the participation as secondments of Prof. Sascha Feldmann (EPFL) and Dr. Robert Gehlhaar (IMEC), who provide exceptional expertise in ultrafast chiroptical spectroscopy and world-class semiconductor fabrication facilities and know-how. This ambitious, cross-disciplinary collaboration integrates expertise in perovskite optoelectronics, chiral photonic nanostructures, ultrafast chiroptical spectroscopy, and laser diode fabrication, providing the critical foundation for the success of CHAMP.
