Objective

Air pollution remains a critical environmental and health challenge, requiring the development of compact, selective, and low-power gas sensing technologies. The REMIND project introduces a multifunctional platform that integrates a memristive device with a mid-infrared (MIR) photodetector, enabling simultaneous electrical and optical gas detection with built-in memory. The memristive element, designed with both vertical and lateral electrode architectures, maximizes active surface exposure, allowing detailed I–V characterization of hysteresis dynamics influenced by gas adsorption. Coupled with MIR spectroscopy, the system achieves molecular-level identification and high selectivity in complex gas mixtures. By uniting detection, memory, and computation within a single miniaturized device, REMIND advances beyond conventional sensing paradigms, offering an energy-efficient, multifunctional solution for real-time environmental monitoring and next-generation smart sensors.
