Transfeminist and queer Discourse Against intracommunity GEnder-based violence

Objective

The project Transfeminist and queer Discourse Against intracommunity GEnder-based violence (T-DERANGE) will study the discursive practices of transfeminist and queer political communities on intracommunity gender-based violence: how these grassroots groups understand violence in non-heterosexual relationships and how they deal with it with a transformative perspective. The project proposes two main innovations in research: (1) it extends the theoretical and methodological framework for identifying and understanding gender-based violence introducing a stakeholder and community-centred perspective; (2) it highlights and operationalize situated ethics and discursive practices concerned with community accountability and community-based transformative justice. The primary target of the project are social movements, civil society organisations (CSOs and NGOs), militant groups, activists and influencers who explicitly adhere to a separate transfeminist politics (no cisgender men). T-DERANGE has two main specific objectives: (SO1) to reconstruct emerging epistemologies and value systems related to intra-community gender-based violence in grassroots transfeminist and queer political communities. (SO2) to co-operationalize grassroots knowledge and praxis through an extensive participatory approach leading to an Incomplete and Reflexive Transfeminist and Queer Dictionary on intracommunity gender-based violence. This will include both situated definitions accompanied by a reflexive account on the process leading to the entries; and a set of guiding questions to analyse intracommunity gender-based violence and deal with it, accounting for complexity in understanding and managing such situations.
