Objective
The transition to sustainable energy has made power systems increasingly reliant on converter-based renewable sources. However, this digitalization also exposes energy infrastructure to new threats, from cyberattacks to unknown technical disruptions, threatening grid stability, reliability, and public safety. SECURE-RES proposes an innovative and unified framework that empowers power electronic converters to act not just as energy interfaces but as intelligent, resilient agents capable of detecting, classifying, and mitigating both cyber and technical disturbances in real time. This project aims to develop a converter-centric control system equipped with embedded intelligence and adaptive algorithms that ensure secure, grid-compliant operation under both normal and adverse conditions. By combining model-based analysis, data-driven learning, and real-time hardware-in-the-loop validation, SECURE-RES introduces a novel hybrid control architecture that transforms vulnerability into resilience. The outcome will be a validated, scalable, and open-access detection-and-control solution ready for deployment across renewable microgrids. With direct alignment to the EU’s energy security priorities, the European Green Deal, and the MSCA Green Charter, SECURE-RES will contribute to building the next generation of low-carbon, cyber-secure energy systems. Beyond advancing scientific frontiers in power electronics and cybersecurity, it delivers real-world impact by safeguarding energy infrastructure, fostering innovation, and protecting the societal functions that depend on reliable electricity.
