Objective

The implementation of the Green Deal and new regulations on PFAS, PCBs and other harmful chemicals in the European Union necessitates efficient, reliable and cost-effective detection methods. One promising approach is the development of electrically modulated surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (E-SERS) sensors using MXene hybrid materials to meet this challenge. MXenes combine high conductivity, tunable chemistry and strong analyte binding, making them ideal for sensitive and selective detection. MX-ESERS develops reliable, adaptable Raman spectroscopy platforms for low-cost, real-time environmental monitoring using innovative MXene materials and electric-field modulation. Ultra-trace detection of PFAS/POPs and their integration into scalable devices for the real world are the goal of advanced strategies such as energy self-sufficient architectures and the functionalisation of MOFs. The project also provides training in materials design, device engineering and environmental sensing and supports the researcher’s development towards independent research leadership.
