Objective

RE-VOICE aims to reframe the concept of psychosocial rehabilitation for schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) by creating an evidence-based, recovery-oriented framework of interventions and piloting its application in real-world health services. The project builds on six interconnected scientific work packages (WPs). WP1 and WP2 will be conducted at Stanford University and will deliver the first component network meta-analysis (cNMA) of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on psychosocial rehabilitation interventions for SSDs, dismantling interventions into core components, developing an updated taxonomy of intervention components, and identifying effective components and mechanisms of action through mediation analyses. WP3 will design and pilot-test a novel psychosocial rehabilitation intervention composed of the most effective components identified in WP1 and WP2, combining evidence-based medicine and participatory approaches. The intervention will be pilot-tested in a hybrid effectiveness-implementation study at the Verona University Hospital. WP4, WP5, and WP6 will ensure the dissemination and exploitation of results, as well as training, and project management. RE-VOICE addresses the following persistent gaps in psychosocial rehabilitation: outdated conceptual models, limited integration of clinical and personal recovery, and unclear intervention components targeting functioning. The findings will inform WHO-aligned rehabilitation guidelines and provide scalable tools for optimizing psychosocial rehabilitation worldwide, thereby promoting meaningful social inclusion and recovery for people with SSDs.
