Objective

Organometallic halide perovskites (OMHPs) have emerged as a promising class of photovoltaic (PV) materials, rapidly capturing the attention of both academic researchers and industry investors. This growing interest stems from the outstanding optoelectronic characteristics exhibited by OMHPs, such as tunable bandgaps, strong light absorption capabilities, and extended carrier diffusion lengths, all of which are achieved at a relatively low production cost. Widespread implementation of perovskite-based solar technologies could significantly lower the levelized cost of solar electricity, thereby supporting global efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development. However, the lack of efficient and stable inverted perovskite solar modules (ESIPSMs) remains a critical challenge that hinders their large-scale commercial deployment. The ultimate goal of this project is to develop low-cost ESIPSMs with a power conversion efficiency exceeding 24.5% and operational stability maintaining over 95% of initial performance for more than 1000 hours under maximum power point. This will be achieved through innovative post-treatment methods for perovskite surfaces, interface optimization strategies, the development of novel electron transport materials, and an enhanced fundamental understanding of electron extraction mechanisms. The uniqueness of this project lies in its interdisciplinary approach, combining scalable sequential solution-processing techniques with advanced interfacial engineering and the synthesis of colloidal SnO2 materials to produce industrially viable ESIPSMs. The research benefits from the host lab's cutting-edge infrastructure for module fabrication and the experienced researcher's extensive background in interface design and material synthesis. Moreover, the project aligns closely with the European Union's Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities mission as well as the global Net Zero Emissions target.
