Objective

The project aims to critically reread two key contexts of the Late Eneolithic in Southern Italy (2800-2200 BC) - Laterza and Gricignano d'Aversa - by integrating traditional archaeological methodologies and advanced digital technologies. Although both sites have yielded material evidence of exceptional relevance, they lack a systematic critical review. Through the direct study of the materials, the analysis of the sources, and the re-elaboration of the excavation data, the project aims to restore a coherent picture of the cultural dynamics of the 3rd millennium B.C., highlighting inter-regional interaction networks and identity-building phenomena through material culture with a morpho-typological reference corpus for Laterza ceramic. The adopted approach combines photogrammetry, laser scanning, and 3D modelling to produce three-dimensional models, organised in an open-source 3D GIS information system and an Extended Matrix of the archaeological structures, functional for stratigraphic and interpretative analysis. These models will be fed into immersive environments accessible remotely through Extended Reality and the Metaverse, fostering new ways of using, analysing, and sharing the archaeological heritage. According to FAIR principles, the entire workflow will be documented and shared openly, contributing to developing an open and replicable science. The project stands out for its interdisciplinarity, combining archaeology, digital humanities, and immersive technologies, and its commitment to inclusive public communication, aimed at democratising access to knowledge. In line with European policies for digitising cultural heritage, the initiative aims to generate lasting impacts in the scientific, social, and cultural spheres, promoting an active and aware digital citizenship. By integrating archaeological research and technological innovation, the project will enhance the Eneolithic heritage in a contemporary, sustainable, and accessible way.
